This was a real GWR proposal, and according to RCTS it was drawn up around 1905. Its drawn with just 12 tons weight on each of the driving wheels, and a wheelbase of only 15ft 3in, fractionally shorter than that of a large pannier tank like the 2721 class.

Now entering the realm of "what if?" by including prototype vehicles and the liveries they could've worn in another life... New Class 220/221 sprites, as well as two new liveries and the Class 222. Fixed pacer headlights not functioning. New parameter to change the selection of steam locomotives currently does not function.

Reading K J Cook's Swindon steam, one can imagine an instruction like "We're in for a big batch of new tank engines. Combine the best from the 1854 and 2721 classes and get in all the new features so they run the maximum mileage between overhauls." The drawings are in roughly chronological order.

The majority of these were built as 4-6-0 locomotives; but thirteen examples were built as 4-4-2 locomotives and later converted to 4-6-0 during 1912/13. They proved to be a highly successful class which established the design principles for GWR 2-cylinder classes over the next fifty years, and influenced similar classes on other British railways.
