“I dare you to throw a stone at me”, he would say. Naturally they would be unable to resist the temptation. But the stone would always rebound, knocking the thrower into the pit where Ga-Gorib would gobble them up. It took the resourceful Heitsi-eibib to dispatch the monster with a bit of cunning and a well-aimed throw beneath the ear.

Ga-Gorib is a monster associated with Gaunab, the god of the underworld in Khoekhoe mythology. Ga-Gorib often challenges people to throw a stone at his forehead while he sat at the edge of a big and deep hole on the ground.

In Khoikhoi mythology, Ga-gorib is a mythological monster who sat by a deep hole in the ground and dared passers-by to throw rocks at him. The rocks bounced off and killed the passer-by, who then fell into the hole. One time, Heitsi-eibib distracted Ga-gorib and hit it below its ear with a rock; it fell into the pit.

The second "Haitsiaibeb myth," though not connected with the hero, is regarded by Schultze as a modern variant of Bleek's story of Gagorip, in which that monster hurls people into a pit until overcome by Haitsiaibeb.1
