The Gagauz people are one of the largest ethnic minorities in Moldova. During the Russian colonization of southern Bessarabia ( Budjak ), in the early 19th century, the Gagauz people moved from the eastern Balkans , beginning to stabilize their presence on the future territory of the Republic of Moldova.
