The Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) Programme of WMO focuses on building a single coordinated global understanding of atmospheric composition, its change, and helps to improve the understanding of interactions between the atmosphere, the oceans and the biosphere.

The Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) is a worldwide system established by the World Meteorological Organization – a United Nations agency – to monitor trends in the Earth's atmosphere. It arose out of concerns for the state of the atmosphere in the 1960s.

GAW Global stations have the most extensive measurement programme in at least three of the six GAW focal areas. In many cases the stations are supported by more than one agency, have strong scientific supporting programme and provide facilities for intensive campaigns.
