gksu is a frontend to su and gksudo is a frontend to sudo. Their primary purpose is to run graphical commands that need root without the need to run an X terminal emulator and using su directly. Notice that all the magic is done by the underlying library, libgksu.

After searching at greater length and finding a few other sources, I think it's safe to say that gksu is nothing more than a wrapper around sudo in most cases. This source states that since gksu displays a password dialog, it's used for graphical applications (as we already know) because it can be used outside a terminal emulator.

Gksu's developer toolkit 2.0 has been released as stable! The new stable version no longer provides a separate libgksuui. That library is now used as an internal library in libgksu only. 2015年8月23日 · Get a fresh Fedora installation, use sudo passwd -d to delete admin account. Log in to the admin account without a password and, for example, click "Unlock" in "User Accounts" (or "Users" or something similar) within "System Settings". It won't ask the password.
