The second-generation RX-7, sometimes referred to as the FC, was offered as a two-seater coupé with a 2+2 option available in some markets, as well as in a convertible body style. This was powered by the 13B rotary engine, offered in naturally aspirated or turbocharged forms.

The Mazda RX-7 Turbo II was a high performance variant of the 2nd Gen Mazda RX-7 that debuted for the 1987 model year. The Turbo II featured a turbocharged 1.3L twin rotor rotary engine that was introduced with an output of 185hp. In 1989, the twin-scroll turbocharger was improved, raising output to 200hp.
