2015年12月18日 · Yes Chris, you could probably say these Mauser rifles were the "testing-ground" which fine-tuned the development of the eventual prime German arm, the Gew98 rifle. Other GW use of similar type rifles could also include the M1895 style Serbian M1899. We had a recent thread discussing the M1895 bayonets which fitted these rifles. Cheers, S>S

2015年11月15日 · The Waffenfabrik Mauser production rifles of 1917 were the standard Gew98 that were supplied to the Turks during the war, together with the matching stamped S98/05 bayonets. From what I understand these Gew98 rifles were not stamped with any Ottoman identifiers, unlike the common Turkish Gew88 which I believe were marked in the German factory.

The germans surrendered huge amounts of gew88 and 98's as reparations to the allies and huge amounts of same rifles for destruction under the versailles treaty.

Often the turkes refinished them with no care to keep them matching , and they generally look rode hard and put up wet.

The scheme the germans used of supplying parts to artillery depots where many rifles were assembeled from new and salvaged parts to include receivers was widespread.

2007年1月5日 · Alot of barracks were being constructed and similar structures by US service troops and many gew98 and kar98a rifles had their stocks cut in miter boxes so as to make the overall length more accomodating to being packed in an overseas bag or similar clothing bag. I own a couple "duff cut" gew98 rifles and I have repaired them all.
