Ginosar (Hebrew: גִּנּוֹסַר) is a kibbutz in the Plain of Ginosar on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee in Israel. Located north of Tiberias on Highway 90, it falls under the jurisdiction of Emek HaYarden Regional Council. In 2022 it had a population of 625. [1]

Its most famous resident, Yigal Alon (1918-1980), was one of the Israeli Army's most notable commanders and a prominent minister in Israel's governments. Despite being surrounded by hostile population in its initial years of existence, Kibbutz Ginosar quickly gained a reputation for the warm hospitality that it provides for travelers.

Gennesaret, also called Ginosar, lies on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee north of Magda in the Ginosar Valley. 2. The beautiful countryside and rich farmlands have caused the area to be called the Paradise of the Galilee.

The modern Kibbutz of Ginosar was founded in the lush plains west of the Sea of Galilee. These are probably “The plains of Genessar,” described by 1st-century historian Josephus as one of the most fertile areas in the Holy Land (Jos. War. 3.10.8/506-521).
