The SEER database tracks 5-year relative survival rates for GIST in the United States, based on how far the cancer has spread. The SEER database, however, does not group cancers by AJCC TNM stages (stage 1, stage 2, stage 3, etc.).

2024年4月15日 · Survival rates for GIST cancer vary depending on the stage of the disease at diagnosis. According to the American Cancer Society, the 5-year survival rate for localized GIST is approximately 76%, while the 5-year survival rate for metastatic GIST is around 35%.

Those with localized GIST tumors had a 5-year survival rate of 93%. Those with regional GIST tumors which spread to nearby tissues had a 5-year survival rate of 80%.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors have a high survival rate if the cancer is caught early; 94% of people diagnosed with localized GI stromal tumors are alive five years later.

The risk of recurrence in resected gastrointestinal stromal tumors is impacted by a number of variables: tumour size, mitotic index, primary location and tumor rupture. Gastric GISTs are noted to have a more favourable prognosis than intestinal GISTs with a similar profile.
