2019年5月8日 · In the 1950s Folland Aircraft commenced design of a lightweight fighter as a private venture known as the FO 145 and the prototype, known as the Midge (G-39-1), flew for the first time on 11 August 1954 at Boscombe Down in Wiltshire. The design was developed into the Gnat, the prototype of which (G-39-2) flew on 18 July 1955.

Constructed in 1964, Gnat T.1 XS100 spent time in storage at a number of sites around the UK following its withdrawal from RAF service but was ultimately dismantled and destined for something of an unusual future.
