The InterCity 225 is an electric push-pull high speed train in the United Kingdom, comprising a Class 91 electric locomotive, nine Mark 4 coaches and a Driving Van Trailer (DVT).

Great North Eastern Railway, [1] often referred to as GNER, was a train operating company in the United Kingdom, owned by Sea Containers, that operated the InterCity East Coast franchise on the East Coast Main Line between London, Yorkshire, North East England and Scotland from April 1996 until December 2007.

The Class 91s were given the auxiliary name of InterCity 225 to indicate their envisaged top speed of 225 km/h (140 mph); they were also referred to as Electras by British Rail during their development and throughout the electrification of the East Coast Main Line.

Two passenger train operating companies use InterCity 225s – London North Eastern Railway (LNER) and Transport for Wales Rail (TfW). Find planned diagrams and timetables here. LNER uses InterCity 225s on a small number of daily services between London and York, Leeds, Bradford or Skipton.
