I would honestly just recommend cropping parts out of an image/wallpaper rather than specifically looking for pfp it most of the time looks much better. As for loss in quality save the file and then after cropping make sure to save it as a png to preserve as much as possible.

A couple. 1) if some sort of joke makes you laugh, get the person taking the picture to tell a few (a smile from a laugh looks authentic).
