Real time navigation is prohibited for any provider that doesn’t store their map data in Korea on Korean servers and give the government access to it. Google doesn’t comply so Google maps can’t be used for real-time navigation. It does work and has relatively accurate maps that are just maps.

If I remember correctly, you won't be able to select any location-of-interest directly by 'tapping' on Google Maps itself. But, it will appear if you search for it. As others have said, Kakao maps and Naver maps function better in Korea.

The subway app is handy when you know you’ll be only taking the subway. However naver will integrate it all into one for you with walking, busses, and subways.
