The Greenhouse Gases Observing Satellite (GOSAT) is the world's first spacecraft to measure the concentrations of carbon dioxide and methane, the two major greenhouse gases.

Greenhouse Gases Observing Satellite (GOSAT), also known as Ibuki (Japanese: いぶき, Hepburn: Ibuki, meaning "breath" [4]), is an Earth observation satellite and the world's first satellite dedicated to greenhouse gas monitoring. [5] It measures the densities of carbon dioxide and methane from 56,000 locations on the Earth's atmosphere. [6]

GOSAT (Greenhouse gases Observing SATellite) is an environment-monitoring satellite developed by Japan which launched on 23 January 2009 and remains operational. It is part of ESA's Third Party Missions Programme, in which ESA has an agreement with JAXA to distribute data products from the mission.

The project of the Greenhouse gases Observing SATellite "IBUKI" (GOSAT), the world’s first satellite designed specifically for monitoring greenhouse gases from space, is jointly promoted by the Ministry of the Environment, Japan, the National Institute for Environmental Studies, and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.
