92 year-old rockin’ grandma, Betty Jo, is a legend at Gruene Hall. She dances there 3 times a week and says that when she hears music, she just can’t sit still. RIP Ms. Betty Joe. I hope you are dancing in the sky, and I hope you are singing in the Angels choir. If you see my son, give him a hug from me and ask him to dance with you.

She brought joy for many years to all who were lucky enough to see her dance the day or night away at Gruene Hall or the Grapevine. She arrived by a taxi and would dance by herself or with others for hours at a time.

Up-and-coming Western swing band Asleep at the Wheel took the stage, officially marking the start of Gruene Hall’s musical legacy. Forty years later, Molak’s vision is alive and well. The hall hosts live music nightly, the town of Gruene has boomed around it and it’s become a part of Texas music history.
