Gasoline as gunpowder, what issues may arise? : r/worldbuilding - Reddit
2020年9月27日 · Gunpowder is self oxidizing, and doesn't rely on atmospheric oxygen to burn. Gasoline is not self oxidizing. This means you can't just pour gasoline into a casing and press a bullet into it. You'd need the proper stoichiometric ratio of oxygen to gasoline vapor.
Why isn't gunpowder used as an energy and power source?
2023年4月3日 · Gunpowder has an energy density of ~10 Mj/kg, while gasoline has an energy density of ~45 Mj/kg, over four times more. You’d have to have a lot more gunpowder than gasoline to get the same amount of energy. Gunpowder costs more like 35 dollars per pound. Gasoline costs somewhere around 0.70 dollars per pound where I live (though this is ...
Re: How does the expansion of gunpowder compare to that of gasoline?
At any rate, it is clear that, in terms of energy per mass, gunpowder has less energy than gasoline or diesel. But what about per volume rather than mass? Gasoline has a density of about 737 kg/m 3 (see this) while modern gunpowders have densities in the ballpark of 1000 kg/m 3 (see this) , which means that, per volume, gasoline has an energy ...
Detonation and Combustion - Computer Science
Instead, most low explosives include both a fuel and an oxidizing agent which releases oxygen when heated. Consider for instance black powder, the most primitive form of gunpowder and the quintessential low explosive. In black powder, charcoal and sulphur are the fuel, and postassium nitrate (KNO3) is the oxidizing agent. Detonation (A Regular ...
Here's Why We Don't Use Gunpowder To Power Cars - Jalopnik
2019年7月26日 · That's because gunpowder, at best, has a specific energy density of 11.3 megajoules per kilogram (which was delightfully laid out in a study that tried to examine whether or not gunpowder could...
Energy : Gunpowder vs Gasoline - 24hourcampfire
2015年4月6日 · By weight, a gal of gas is roughly 8 lb. Compare it to 8lb of powder or do it by volume - a gal of powder. “In a time of deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” It's not over when you lose. It's over when you quit. Gasoline is closer to 6 pounds to that gallon.
Energy : Gunpowder vs Gasoline - 24HOURCAMPFIRE
Posted By: Dutch Re: Energy : Gunpowder vs Gasoline - 04/06/15 The energy density of smokeless powder is MUCH less than half that of gasoline. So a gallon of gas is more like 20 lbs of smokeless powder in energy.
Amount of gas produced by different powders - General …
2010年5月6日 · From looking at factory load data from Hodgdon comparing fast powders it seems that some produce quite different pressures from others at the same or similar power factor. I realize that burn rate can effect this too. But, it seems that for recoil control in a non-comp'ed gun the amount of gas produced would be a big factor in how the recoil feels.
