A block of children's series aimed at the 2–11 age demographic, " HBO Kids " (formerly known as "Jam" from August 2001 to January 2016), consisting of programs rated TV-Y and TV-Y7, is also offered weekdays from 6:00 to (approximately) 8:00am; movies and family-oriented original specials occupy the remainder of the channel's daily schedule.

Most of the featured films on HBO Family are G, PG, or PG-13, no R nor NC-17 rated films are broadcasted on the network. Simultaneous ratings for TV series include TV-Y, TV-Y7, TV-G, TV-PG, and sometimes TV-14. HBO's attempt at creating a family-friendly-based network dates back all the way to 1979, with the short-lived Take 2 network.
