Question: Draw the structure for chloric acid, HClO3. Optimize formal charges.
HClO3 Lewis Structure - CHEMISTRY COMMUNITY - University of …
2020年12月11日 · H is bonded to O in HClO3 because that's the most stable structure. With this structure, each atom has a formal charge of 0. If H was bonded to the Cl, the O without the double bond would have a formal charge of 0 and the Cl would have a formal charge of +1. Also, I believe since HClO3 is an acid, that also explains why the H is bonded to the O.

Question: A) Draw the Lewis structure of HClO3 where the structure obeys octet rule. What is the electronic geometry?B) Draw the structure where the formal charges are minimized. Draw in the bond dipoles.
Lewis Structure of HClO3 - CHEMISTRY COMMUNITY
2015年11月6日 · Re: Lewis Structure of HClO3 Post by Chiara R 1K » Fri Nov 06, 2015 5:17 am To my understanding, if the H atom is bonded to the central Cl atom, the Cl atom would have a formal charge of +1, while the O atom would have a formal charge of -1 if it had another lone pair instead of bonding with the H atom.

Is HClO3 classified as a strong acid? - CHEMISTRY COMMUNITY
2015年11月19日 · The strength of oxo-acids is primarily affected by the number of oxygens double-bonded to the central atom, because these electron-attracting groups weaken the O-H bonds and make the substance acidic. HClO3 and HClO4 are strong acids due to the multiple oxygens bonded to the central atom. HClO2, however, is a weak acid.
