
What was the point of HDMI's Ethernet (HEC) feature?
2020年5月26日 · The HDMI ethernet channel was never embraced by the device mfrs so it went unused, even though the cable mfrs used it as a selling feature. Now that eARC is available, in part, on some HDMI 2.0 devices, the ethernet channel is used for eARC. Once HDMI 2.1 is widely available, eARC will be able to be fully utilized using the "ethernet" channel.

2016年6月9日 · The likelihood is that today you likely still wouldn't need HDMI HEC, even if somehow the devices you own happen to implement it. There is an issue of the Ethernet Ports on smart TVs being limited to 10/100, but that's fixed with a USB 3.0 to Ethernet adapter.

High Speed HDMI cables are, for the most part if well made, the same thing only the mfr hasn't opted to pay for certification process which can be costly.

2006年10月25日 · Unless the manufacturer identifies the cable is such there is no way to tell beyond testing. Using a 1080p/60 or higher resolution/freq signal with HDMI Deep Colour at the max bit depth the kit supports is a relatively high bandwidth to use as a test. All HDMI cables handle "all" the mandatory features of HDMI (ethernet is optional).

2016年3月25日 · I'll also agree that this was a "short-sighted" decision by the HDMI committee, but eliminating an SP/DIF connection between the source and sink was the goal, and that goal was achieved in the quickest, easiest to implement, way -- make ARC equivalent to coax SP/DIF with HEC controls to tell the sink when data is being sent its way.

2011年8月15日 · HDMI audio travels in one direction, unless the HDMI cable and both devices support ARC (Audio Return Channel), and the HDMI inputs are High Speed HDMI (one of the specs). It doesn't matter what the audio is, once they leave the tv thru the toslink cable the best they can be is Dolby Digital etc.

2003年5月7日 · Forget about Version numbers on cables and as Andy says forget about HEC (HDMI Ethernet Channel) it's a non starter. Install a High Speed HDMI cable alongside your CAT cable. If you have a problem running both cables you could run HDMI + 10/100 over your CAT cable via a set of HDBaseT extenders - though it gets v expensive!
