2021年10月25日 · With the unusual pennant number M23, HMS Adventure was the first dedicated minelaying cruiser of the Royal Navy. Inspired by WWI German minelayer cruisers, she was built in the 1920s but saw action in the Second World War, with a famous commander in 1928-1929 John H. D. Cunningham.

During the night of 27/28 October 1939, HMS Adventure (Capt. A.R. Halfhide, RN), departed Immingham for a minelay off Flamborough Head, During the lay she was escorted by the destroyers HMS Cossack (Capt. D. de Pass, RN) and HMS Jupiter (Lt.Cdr. D.B. Wyburd, RN). On completion of the lay all ships returned to Immingham.

HMS Adventure, pennant number M23, was a minelaying cruiser of the Royal Navy designed by Sir E. T. d'Eyncourt and built by Vickers Ltd to Admiralty specifications. She was laid down at Devonport on November 29th, 1922, and went afloat on June 18th, 1924.

HMS M23 was a First World War Royal Navy M15-class monitor. After service in the Mediterranean and the Dover Patrol, she was also served in the British intervention in Russia in 1919. Converted to the RNVR drillship Claverhouse in 1922, she served in that capacity at Dundee until 1958.
