Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) is a large-scale open cut operation that produces some of the highest quality thermal and semi-soft metallurgical coal in the world. It is a joint venture between Yancoal (51%) and Glencore (49%) which is independently managed on behalf of the JV partners.

Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) produces some of the world’s highest quality thermal coal as well as semi-soft metallurgical coal for export. Our operation – comprising HVO North and HVO South – is in Lemington near the NSW Upper Hunter town of Singleton.

Hunter Valley Operations (HVO), located 24 kilometres north-west of Singleton in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales (NSW), produces high quality thermal coal as well as semi-soft coking coal. Yancoal Australia acquired HVO on 1 September 2017. It jointly owns the mine with Glencore Coal Australia with a 51% stake in the business.

Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) is seeking approval to extend the life of its two Hunter Valley mines – HVO North and HVO South – to continue to produce high quality thermal coal and metallurgical coal that is in demand on world markets. Under the proposal, HVO North will continue to 2050 and HVO South to 2045.

At our HVO South and HVO North mines near the Upper Hunter town of Singleton, we mine up to 42 million tonnes of high quality thermal and semi-soft metallurgical coal a year to help meet the world’s energy needs. Our mines support up to 1,500 jobs.

Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) is a multi-pit open-cut mining complex which uses dragline truck and shovel methods to extract thermal and semi-soft coking coal for sale to international markets. The mine is operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
