Hot briquette iron (HBI) Shipment HBI is produced from DRI, which is compacted at a temperature above 650° C to form briquettes between around 90 mm to 130 mm long, 80 mm to 100mm wide and 20 mm to 50 mm thick. HBI is a much safer form of DRI due to the fact that it is very resistant to overheating in case it gets wet.

HBI (Hot Briquetted Iron) is used as a green scrap supplement in Electric Arc Furnaces allowing the production of most demanding steel grades. HBI is also used in Blast Furnaces to boost productivity and to reduce the coke consumption, or in Blast Oxygen Furnaces as a low-residual substitute for scrap.

HBI has high bulk density, so that storage, loading and unloading, and transportation by all forms of transport are significantly simpler and more cost-effective.
