Heart of Midlothian was founded in 1874, and its name is taken from the Old Tolbooth of Edinburgh, which became a prison in 1640 and was then referred to as ‘Heart of Midlothian.’ The club crest is based on The Heart of Midlothian mosaic on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile.
