This corresponds to the first meaning of the letter aleph: aluf—master—for the Midrash states that Adam caused all the animals and beasts to bow before G‑d, thus acknowledging Him as Master and Creator of the universe. However, that era was qualified as chaos, because the Torah had not yet been revealed.
