I think the scale works if the 'hey' is by itself. If there's more to the message, then it's probably not as accurate. For example, "heyyyy, could you pick me up from the airport on Sunday?" really only means that I would like a ride but am trying to be cute/nice/friendly since I'm asking for a favor.
