Highland’s Tower Project is a modernization effort that will enable the hospital to provide private rooms for nearly all of our patients. The project was developed as a component of Highland’s strategic plan. The COVID-19 global pandemic has helped to highlight that private rooms are critical for patient care.

Highland and all affiliates of the University of Rochester Medical Center have long recognized the importance of putting the patient’s needs first. We call it “Patient and Family Centered Care,” and it’s an approach many hospitals around the country have embraced to bring caregivers closer to the patients and families they serve.

Highland has several units dedicated to care for surgical patients. General Surgery and Bariatric Surgery West 6 is a surgical unit located on the sixth floor of Highland Hospital's west wing with private and semi-private rooms for patients who have had surgery.

A total of 58 new patient rooms were created by this project, allowing Highland to provide private rooms to nearly all its patients, affording more space for patient needs, and the positive therapeutic impact of more privacy and reduced noise during recovery.
