Ulukhaktok (Kangiryuarmiutun : Ulukhaqtuuq, pronounced [ulukhɑqtuːq̚]) and known until 1 April 2006 as Holman or Holman Island) is a small hamlet on the west coast of Victoria Island, in the Inuvik Region of the Northwest Territories, Canada.

Formerly known as Holman, this Inuvialuit community of about 500 wraps around the head of an Arctic inlet on the west coast of Victoria Island, the ninth-largest island on Earth. Its name translates to “where there is ulu material,” referring to the copper used to make the semi-circular Inuit knife called an ulu.

Like other small traditional communities in the territories, hunting, trapping, and fishing are major sources of income, but printmaking has taken over as the primary source of income in recent years.

Ulukhaktok (formerly known as Holman until April 1, 2006) is a small hamlet, located on the west coast of Victoria Island in the Northwest Territories, where the population is 90% Inuvialuit or Inuit, is also home to a variety of animals, birds and fish.

Ulukhaktok (Holman Island) is a traditional home of the Copper Eskimos. Franklin was the first European to visit the area, and Collinson soon followed in search of the lost Franklin expedition. Habitation of the island was first reported by Steffanson in 1911 when two villages were sited.

Ulukhaktok (Holman), or Uluksaqtuuq, (meaning “place where one finds material to make ulus”) is located on Victoria Island and is the most eastern Inuvialuit community. With a population of almost 500, Ulukhaktok also holds traditional ties with the Inuit of the central Arctic.
