2008年9月23日 · I've cut EMT with the tubing cutters you mention and haven't noticed distortion being a problem even when used for it's intended purpose - electrical conduit. I've also successfully used a hack saw, abrasive chop saw (similiar to your solution) and a metal cutting band saw to turn one piece of EMT into two pieces.

The only time I've used a tubing cutter to cut EMT is in existing work when there are wires in the conduit that cannot be removed and the conduit needs to be shortened.

I have a smallish (7.25") chop saw with their steel cutting carbide blade and it performs clean, fast cuts all day long in 2" square tubing and 1.5" angle iron, which is mostly what I cut.

Sliding out the 12" short piece, now I have one end with 12" of conductor sticking out to make the splice.
