2021年3月15日 · If you hold a long stick with your hands close together, it's really hard to move precisely. If you hold it with your hands further apart, your can move it much more dexterously. It's the exact same with a sword; it doesn't just turn into a club. The pommel doesn't do as much balancing as you think either. Most of it comes from the blade's taper.

Thibault has the thumb and one finger on the ricasso. To me, it feels more natural to hold the sword with the quillons vertically, as that is the direction of the most cuts.

Although there are numerous strikes with the pommel while the sword is sheathed and occasionally with both hands on the hilt, I've never seen somebody completely reverse the sword and grip the blade with both hands. Against very heavily armored targets it was not uncommon to hold the sword upside-down and bash people over the head with the crossguard or pommel. Doesn't work with curved swords commonly seen in Asia, however, as you can't get a secure grip with such a weapon.

2016年7月23日 · The hammer grip is essentially the proper way to hold this style of sword. However, you can hold it in the handshake grip—which is not all that different than the hammer. To do this, simply pretend the hilt is your friend reachin out for a handshake—ta da, you've done it. You can also do what's known as "fingering the cross".
