2016年10月24日 · The small amount of wood taken out will not matter, but lean the blade toward the wood being discarded. If you can't access the bottom of the deck, you can remove a section of the board to be discarded close to the screw and then cut the screw horizontally. The stub of the old screw in the framing board will be covered by the new boards.

This involved removing and replacing about 180 wood screws. The things I found that worked best are: Clean around the screw head as much as possible, to free it up from anything around it. Wood screws can become embedded, and the wood covering them hardens over the years, especially if oil/varnish/paint covers them. Use a tight fitting driver.

The pulling motion for the prybar is usually good enough to force the screw to get a bite on the wood and come out. 2017年1月8日 · If the screws are spinning, it's probably because the threaded portion has gone beyond any firm material. Use a chisel or putty knife to pry up on the head of the screw while you spin it backwards with the drill, pressing lightly. Once the threads find their way out to solid wood the screw will back out easily.

2022年8月1日 · Don't worry if they are a bit proud of the joist (1/16"); they will bury themselves into the new wood. You almost certainly won't hit and be stopped by an old screw. the new screw will hit off center and grab adjacent wood. I also cannot recommend Torx head deck screws enough; if you need to back them out in 10 years, you'll be able to.

2024年5月3日 · With some efforts paint can be removed in many places with putty knife. However in some places it is fairly well attached to the wood and I'm not sure what I can use to remove it. I'm fine doing it slowly on my own pace. I am hoping that after removing old paint and then applying new primer + paint the deck would survive a few more years. Photo:
