MBMA is developing multiple High Pressure Acid Leach (“HPAL”) processing plants in partnership with leading global battery material companies. The HPAL processing plants will process limonite nickel ore from MBMA’s SCM Mine to produce Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (“MHP”), a precursor material to the EV battery industry.

2021年11月22日 · With the development of the HPAL facilities, the IMIP is poised to become a leader in nickel-based processing for lithium-ion batteries in Indonesia. The park is categorised as a NSP owing to its role in generating regional and national economic growth.
PT Sulawesi Nickel Cobalt (“SLNC”) will construct and operate a HPAL plant located within the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (“IMIP”), adjacent to the existing HPAL plant operated by PT Huayue Nickel Cobalt (“HNC”).

In 2024 Nickel Industries has announced signing of agreements for the acquisition of the Sampala nickel project (comprising three highly prospective, advanced and contiguous IUPs) covering 6,654 hectares and the acquisition of a 51% interest in the Siduarsi project, a 6th Contract of Work (CoW) which covers 16,470 hectares in West Papua.
The HPAL JV will be constructed within the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (“IMIP”), adjacent to the existing PT QMB New Energy Materials (“QMB”) HPAL processing plant. QMB is a joint venture company controlled by GEM with a current nameplate capacity of 30,000 tonnes per annum of contained nickel in MHP.
