Hugo Kehr holds the Chair of Psychology at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. His research interests, both basic and applied, lie in motivational phenomena, such as volitional depletion, intrinsic motivation and flow experience, the motivating potential of visions, and implicit motives such as the sex motive and fear of death.

The 3H-model of motivation ("3H" stands for the "three components of motivation") was developed by Hugo M. Kehr of UC Berkeley. The 3C-model is an integrative, empirically validated theory of motivation that can be used for systematic motivation diagnosis and intervention.

Kehr has published four monographs and numerous articles on his work in renowned German and international journals. Since 2008, he has been hosting the Munich Symposium on Motivation (MSM) at TUM, a symposium for top international researchers. Kehr studierte an der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in München Betriebswirtschaftslehre. Dort promovierte er 1997 in Psychologie zum „Dr. phil.“ und habilitierte sich 2001.
