Nov 11, 2009 · I had this issue happen with my old Elantra and it ended up being the starter solenoid. The starter motor needs large current to turn, so rather than switch the large current through the ignition circuit, they just have it provided to the starter motor via that large cable, and use a lower powered solenoid to provide the 'switch' signal to activate the starter motor.
