Illness Benefit is a scheme to support you if you cannot work in the short term because you're sick or ill. You must claim Illness Benefit within 6 weeks of becoming ill, regardless of whether your employer pays you or not while you are out sick from work. Late applications will be accepted in certain circumstances.

While waiting for your Illness Benefit claim, if your income does not suffice to meet your needs, you may be able to receive a Basic Supplementary Welfare Allowance Application Form (SWA1). This is a weekly payment for individuals who do not have enough income to cater to their and their dependents' basic needs.
