The Global Mirror with Change Volumes (GMCV) replication periodically uses FlashCopy to establish a new set of data to replicate. Establishing that set of data takes a finite length of time, during which new IO to the volumes is delayed.

Starting PowerVC version 2.1.0, you can register and manage GMCV volumes by using PowerVC GUI or API. Alternatively, you can use registered Global Mirror Storwize to manage GMCV volumes.

Storage controllers are pre-configured to use GMCV replications. GRS provides replication at the storage level by making use of IBM FlashSystem Global Mirror Change volume (GMCV) asynchronous replication technology.

Policy-based replication, first released in Storage Virtualize 8.5.2, provides asynchronous replication between two storage systems. It significantly simplifies configuring and managing replication through the use of replication policies and volume groups with simple reporting of the replication status and recovery point.
