IBM z Integrated Information Processor (zIIP) is a dedicated processor designed to operate asynchronously with the general processors in a mainframe to process new workloads; manage containers and hybrid cloud interfaces; facilitate system recovery; and assist with several types of analytics, systems monitoring and other applications.

In IBM System z9 and successor mainframes, the System z Integrated Information Processor (zIIP) is a special purpose processor. It was initially introduced to relieve the general mainframe central processors (CPs) of specific Db2 processing loads, but currently is used to offload other z/OS workloads as described below.

An IBM® z Integrated Information Processor (zIIP) is a dedicated processor designed to operate asynchronously with the general processors in an IBM Z® system to help improve utilization of computing capacity and control costs. A zIIP is designed for select data (database), cloud, and transaction (Java™) processing workloads.

zIIPs can be used to encrypt and decrypt data that is sent to or from IBMz/OS Connect. By running some of the IPsec network encryption instructions on zIIPs, you can reduce your GCP usage and lower CPU costs.

Jointly, zAAPs and zIIPs provide significant IBM System z9™ integrated and cost-effective processing cycles for today's strategic Java™ and DB2® for z/OS® programming platforms which are increasingly fundamental to enterprise-class business environments.

2024年9月30日 · SMF type 30 (Common Address Space) provides accounting data on various aspects of address spaces using zIIP resources. zIIP eligible work will try to execute on a zIIP processor. If there are insufficient resources available (e.g. the zIIP processor is busy), then work may be dispatched on a general purpose processor.

zAAPs, or IBM zEnterprise Application Assist Processors, are specialized processing units that provide an economical Java execution environment. zIIPs, or IBM z Integrated Information Processors, are specialty engines designed to improve resource optimization and lower the cost of eligible workloads.
