Conservation Police Officers are vested with full state-wide police authority and are trained to the highest standards for law enforcement professionals in Illinois.

CPOTs must complete a basic law enforcement academy, the IDNR Conservation Police Academy, and field training. The first academy is a 16-week program mandated by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board entitled the "640-Hour Basic Law Enforcement Course."
