The Radio Regulations of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) allow amateur radio and amateur satellite operations in the frequency range 24.000 GHz to 24.250 GHz, which is known as the 1.2-centimeter band. It is also referred to as the K-band by AMSAT.

Abstract: The Standard Letter Designations for Radar-Frequency Bands was first issued in 1976 and was written to remove the confusion that developed from the misapplication to radar of letter band designations of other microwave frequency users. This standard relates the letter terms in common usage to the frequency ranges that they represent.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has been maintaining the Standard Letter Designations for radar-frequency bands since 1976, which were revised most recently in 2002 (see Table B.1).
