The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Force was raised on 24 October, 1962. At present, the ITBP guards 3,488 km long India-China borders ranging from the Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh.

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is a central armed police force in India under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It is responsible for guarding India’s border with Tibet . It was formed in the aftermath of the Sino-Indian War of 1962.

With a constant evolving adversary and changing environment, the Force will strive to constantly upgrade its standards and equipment to meet the new and emerging challenges on the highest border in the world and in other theatres.

2025年1月7日 · The Indo-Tibetan Border Police moved 33 out of its 56 border posts along the India-China LAC forward and deployed six new battalions to enhance operational capabilities. The force plans to address deficiencies in technology-based surveillance and improve weaponry, with funds earmarked for infrastructure development at the LAC.

2023年12月30日 · Rahul Rasgotra has been made the new Director General of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in December 2023. The appointment of Rahul Rasgotra has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet.

On 31st August 2021, senior Indian Police Service officer Sanjay Arora took charge as the ITBP DG. He will lead the elite Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force as the Director-General until 31st July 2025, which is the date of his superannuation.
