Recognition of importance of iwi-The iwi is hereby acknowledged as an enduring, traditional, and significant form of social, political, and economic organisation for Maori.

The Māori Fisheries Amendment Act is intended to reduce costs, improve efficiency, move iwi towards greater rangatiratanga, and increase the entities' ability to provide settlement assets benefits to all Māori.

While the Act was passed in 1990 – it was repealed in 1991. These are the Political Actions that have been taken to address Māori concerns regarding Crown breaches of Te Tiriti O Waitangi: The Treaty of Waitangi.

The New Zealand Settlements Act of 1863 provided for the confiscation of Maori land when the Crown determined an iwi, or a significant number of members of an iwi, had been in rebellion against the Queen.

The Runanga Iwi Act (1990) was purported to enable iwi Maori to negotiate directly with the Crown for government services and programmes as a Treaty partner.

2016年11月18日 · The 2011 Act replaced Crown ownership with a “no ownership” principle, and restored the right of Māori to seek customary rights and title through the courts or through negotiation with the government. Some Māori were disappointed with the new legislation, which led to further protests.
