IX Ranch — IX
The IX Ranch is located south-east of a small town called Big Sandy in the mixed-grass prairie of north central Montana. The ranch extends through the southern edge of the Bear Paw mountain range and on east towards the Missouri River.
Internships — IX
The IX Ranch Company located in Big Sandy, Montana is seeking students from agricultural universities who are interested in learning what it takes to operate a successful cow-calf operation in the 21st Century.
History — IX
Three generations strong, the IX Ranch continues a family tradition of ranching with a commitment to excellence in environmental stewardship and livestock production. Since 1955, our main goal has been to raise high quality feeder cattle while maintaining our natural resources in the way Mother Nature intended.
Hunting — IX
The IX is home to wildlife such as: elk, white tail, mule deer, antelope, mountain lion, bobcats, coyotes and prairie dogs as well as upland game birds such as grouse and pheasant. Since 2009 the ranch has been working with friend and neighbor Chris Faber of Montana Outfitting Company.
Land — IX
One of the limiting factors in North Central Montana is stock water. Over the past 55 years, the IX Ranch has developed and improved over 90 off-stream stock water sites including springs, wells, pipelines, reservoirs and windmills. As a part of the ranch’s management objectives, new site locations are continually being sought.
Horses — IX
We pride ourselves on raising top quality quarter horses, able to withstand the pressures of a working cattle ranch. These animals are an integral part of the operation and are the primary cattle management tool, used to reduce animal stress and impact to the environment.
Ranch Family — IX
The IX Ranch is very proud and fortunate to have some of the best, most experienced and dedicated employees in the business. Todd Amsbaugh, the ranch's COO has been with the ranch over 35 years and still continues to exhibit the work ethic that has established their professionalism.

Cattle — IX
Operating on over 120,000 acres in and around the Bear Paw Mountain range in North Central Montana, the ranch is home to over 3,000 head of mother cows. Cattle on the IX are worked on horseback and treated with care and respect.
