The IAR 80 was a Romanian World War II low-wing monoplane, all-metal monocoque fighter and ground-attack aircraft. When it first flew, in 1939, it was comparable to contemporary designs being deployed by the airforces of the most advanced military powers such as the Hawker Hurricane and Bf 109E. [2] .

2016年8月5日 · When first unveiled in 1938, the Romanian-produced I.A.R. 80 (IAR = Industria Aeronautica Romana) piston engine, single-seat fighter was a promising performer even when compared to her contemporaries. The aircraft served with the Royal Romanian Air Force and primarily appeared in two major variants designated simply as the IAR 80 and IAR 81.

The 2nd Fighter Group (IAR-80C) was located on the Ianca airfield. The 51st Squadron of the 5th Fighter Group was also equipped with IAR-81Cs. In home defense there were also the 1st, 4th, 6th and 7th Fighter Groups.

2021年4月3日 · In order to start the mass production, the Ministry of Air and Navy (Ministerul Aerului și Marinei – M.A.M.) draws up a Statement of Work (SOW), annex to Contract No. 2072/18 Dec 1939. This SOW places an order for a first batch of 50 fighters of the IAR 80 type, which were going to be manufactured by Regia Autonomă I.A.R. of Brașov.

Survivors of the war were used by the Romanian Air Force until the late forties, and some were converted to two seat trainers.
