Slugs PB1 and PB2 are paired with SW1500s: PB1 with 1520, PB2 with 1500. In 2019, IHB began repainting their lodomotive fleet in an orange-black livery resembling the very first paint scheme from the late 1940s.

Its mainline runs between the Metra (CP) Milwaukee District-West at Franklin Park, IL and the NS Chicago Line at East Chicago, IN, via Blue Island, IL and Gibson, IN. IHB operates 2 major classification yards, Gibson and Blue Island.

Power Booster was the IHB's name for their slugs - units that had traction motors, but no prime mover or generator, and received electricity from the diesel locomotive that they were mated with.

Rosters, historical information, maps and photographs are available here for those interested in the nation's largest terminal railroad (nearly 400 track miles). The IHB operates as an independent road even though it is jointly owned by Conrail Shared Assets (51%) and Canadian Pacific (49%).

Unfortunately, IHB's last remaining NW2s were among the trade-ins. In 2021 three of these units were converted to slugs and paired with GP40-2LW units. The fourth unit was retired.

IHB 477 is classified as a "hump trailer" by IHB. SOO SD60 #6059 leads this four-unit consist south out of IHB's Michigan Ave. Yard on the Kankakee Line. They're crossing the CSX ex-B&OCT mainline at Calumet Junction. A IHB Transfer with SW1500 1506, slug 477, SW1500 1524, and a caboose heads over the elevated Metra line. It's a bit chilly outside.

After some rain fall the night before, a veteran Indiana Harbor Belt SW1500 (1524) and it’s slug (474) are on hump duty, as they begin to shove a large string of steel coil cars up and down the hump at IHB’s Blue Island Yard in Blue Island, IL. These switchers are definitely an iconic around Chicago and Northwest Indiana. Taken: 5-20-19

2004年9月2日 · CSX has a sizable fleet of road slugs numbered in the 2200-2350 series. They have been converted to slugs from GP30’s, GP35’s & GP40’s in the usual fashion by removing the engine, replacing it with ballast and rewiring the traction motors to draw current from the slug mother’s main generator.
