The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) is a scientific institution based in Pune, Maharashtra, India for expanding research on the Ocean-Atmosphere Climate System required for the improvement of Weather and Climate Forecasts.

IITM Pune is inviting an applications to do a summer internship at IITM for 2-3 Months. Total 30 Summer Internship positions are being considered for May-July 2024. Maximum TWO students will be assigned to one IITM scientist mentor for the Summer Internship.

Acting on this recommendation, the Government of India established the Institute of Tropical Meteorology (ITM) on 17 November 1962, at Pune, as a distinct unit of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IITM Earth System Model (IITM-ESM), developed recently at CCCR, IITM, is an outcome of incorporating earth system components in the Climate Forecast System (CFS) coupled model from National Center for Environmental Prediction (NCEP, USA), and thereby transforming the CFS seasonal prediction model to a long-term climate model.

Welcome to our Ocean Research Lab at IITM, Pune. We are part of the Training Program of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune. Our primary research is on Oceanography, Physics, and Biogeochemistry of the ocean, Ocean Carbon Cycle, and Fisheries.

Pratyush and Mihir are the supercomputers established at Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune and National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecast (NCMRWF), Noida respectively.
