Ilyushin Il-14s and Avia 14s had 133 incidents and accidents during their operational history. [1] An Aeroflot Il-14 crashed on takeoff from Irkutsk Airport, killing all 17 on board. [2][3] Aeroflot Flight 214, an Il-14P (CCCP-Л5057), crashed on approach to Voronezh Airport following wing separation due to an engine fire, killing all 25 on board.

A Tarom Ilyushin Il-14 broke in flight in poor weather while en route and crashed near Sibiu, Romania, killing all 31 occupants. The airplane operated on a domestic flight from Timisoara (TSR) to Bucharest-Baneasa (BBU). A powerful storm was affecting most of the airspace of Romania that day.

The Ilyushin Il-14 (NATO reporting name: Crate) is a Soviet twin-engine commercial and military personnel and cargo transport aircraft that first flew in 1950, and entered service in 1954. The Il-14 was also manufactured in East Germany by VEB Flugzeugwerke as the VEB 14 and in Czechoslovakia as the Avia 14.

Manufactured in December 1957 by VEB Flugzeugwerke Dresden and delivered to the East German Air Force as 403 in March 1958. Re-registered to 426 in November 1958. Call-sign was DM-VAL. Wfu in 1977 and donated to the Hungarian Air Force museum in 1980.

Außer bei Aeroflot wurde die IL-12 bei CSA, CAAC, LOT, TAROM und TABSO, der Vorläuferin der Balkan, eingesetzt. Iljuschin baute aber schon an ein Nachfolgemodell und ließ die Erkenntnisse der IL-12 einfließen. Am 20.9.1950 flog erstmals das neue Modell, die IL-14. Das auffälligste Merkmal war die fast quadratische Seitenflosse.
