A promising possible preventive for altitude sickness is myo-inositol trispyrophosphate (ITPP), which increases the amount of oxygen released by hemoglobin. ITPP subjectively seems to do much the same thing, but for weeks at a time. My alertness definitely seems better with this substance -- this could be related to some minor nasal breathing obstructions I've always had, seemingly related to childhood allergies.

I don't believe ITPP is a big dope drugs. its all depends in the oxygen uptake of individual that taking it so yes lungs capacity is important.
