This site provides the best available, up-to-date information on all fishing and related vessels that appear on the illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing vessel lists published by Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) and related organisations.

The Index provides an IUU fishing score for all coastal states of between 1 and 5 (1 being the best, and 5 the worst). On the basis of its diverse indicators, the Index provides a measure of the risk of IUU fishing in and by different countries.

In its 2023 Report, NOAA Fisheries identified seven nations and entities for IUU fishing: Angola, Grenada, Mexico, the People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, The Gambia, and Vanuatu. Identifications for the PRC and Taiwan include information related to seafood-related goods produced through forced labor.

The U.S. Coast Guard will enable, support, and inform counter-IUU fishing operations, including through the innovative use of intelligence, technology, data analysis, and information sharing in order to eliminate the shadows where illicit actors thrive.

The trans-national nature of IUU fishing demands the ability to readily share and receive data among nations. More cost-effective tools for rapid detection of suspicious and illicit fishing activity will strengthen enforcement and control efforts, mitigating the damages caused by IUU fishing.
