
LMS Ivatt Class 4 - Wikipedia
The LMS Ivatt Class 4 2-6-0 is a class of steam locomotive primarily designed for medium freight work but also widely used on secondary passenger services. The London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) ordered 162 of this type between 1947 and 1952, but only three were built by the LMS before nationalisation in 1948.

The locomotive is owned by the Ivatt Class 4 Group. It reached the end of its boiler 'ticket' in January 2024. After a period in store in Bridgnorth Loco Works, it was announced in November 2024 that 43106 would move into The Engine House, replacing BR Riddles 4MT 80079 which was to move to Barrow Hill on a 'store and display' agreement.

43106 is owned by the Ivatt Class 4 Group and is based on the Severn Valley Railway where it remains operational. The next boiler overhaul is due in 2020 but with agreement from an insurance examiner it could remain in service until 2023.
The Ivatt C1 4-4-2 Atlantics - London and North Eastern Railway
Ivatt introduced the 4-4-2 Atlantic type to Britain with his 'Klondike' (LNER C2) type in 1898. In December 1902, he built No. 251 by adapting the design and increasing the boiler diameter from 4ft 8in to 5ft 6in. The GNR classified both types as C1, but the LNER classified the large boiler variation as C1 and the small boiler variation as C2.

LMS/BR 4MT Ivatt Built between 1947 and 1952 these locomotives were not the prettiest design of 2-6-0 locomotive to be produced in Britain by any stretch of the imagination. The class paved the way for the later BR Standard Class 4 76000-76114 which thankfully were tidied up developments of the class by Riddles.
