Ivdel (Russian: Ивдель; Mansi: Сапсаус, Sapsayas) is a town in Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia, located on the Ivdel River (Ob's basin) near its confluence with the Lozva River, 535 kilometers (332 mi) north of Yekaterinburg, the administrative center of the oblast.

On Jan 25, 1959, the Dyatlov group arrived in Ivdel on train №81, stamped their route book, and took a bus GAZ-51 to Vizhay. They didn't mention or see the Ivdellag. There is another world they were living in. The main industry of the region was mining, logging, and building the railway.

Volga Germans were sent to Ivdel to work in the forced labor of the Trudarmee during the Soviet Era. The gulag there was established in 1937. Many Volga German families remained in the area following the completion of their forced labor time.
