J217 - Multitronic control unit, coding. From model year 2004. Coding value 00001. This coding value applies to all vehicles with Multitronic which do not have control unit part number 01J927156CR. However, in model year 2001 there are some vehicles which were shipped with coding value 00002.

If the automatic gearbox control unit -J217- has been renewed, you must carry out the following steps using a vehicle diagnostic tester: –

Encode the new automatic gearbox control unit -J217-. Adapt the automatic gearbox control unit -J217-. To do so, use vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051B-. Check the repair history of the vehicle to see whether the number of friction plates on the gearbox input shaft was changed from 6 to 7.

The automatic gearbox control unit -J217- is monitored via self-diagnosis. Removing and installing → Servicing multitronic 0AW; Rep. gr.38 Hydraulic control unit

One or both of the following DTCs may be stored in the transmission control module (TCM), J217 (address word 0002): DTC P173500 (position sender for clutch 1, electric fault) with symptom code 10666; DTC P173600 (position sender for clutch 2, electric fault) with symptom code 10668.
